The Relentless Tide

Hi all.  It's been a while since I sat down and read the forums. Had a bit too much going on in my head and have been struggling a bit with the PTSD/Anxiety/Depression. Getting used to the side effects of another medication on top of what I already take has also sent the body into a bit of a spin.  But enough of that, I thought I would share another poem called "The Relentless Tide" that I wrote recently.

Regards - Keith

The Relentless Tide

In the world that he lives amongst all the commotion

Is a merciless sea filled with clashing emotion

For years he was swimming along with the best

Then his mind gave up, needing care and a rest

He’d been swept out on the tide of unresolved trauma

Where he struggled to float, to stay strong, to stay sane

He could see no beauty in the worlds’ flora or fauna

Alone on the sea polluted with pain

Afloat with his memories then washed back by the ocean

To be stuck in the mud, bewildered and frightened

Bogged down in his past of overwhelming emotion

The more that he fought, the more that it tightened

For him there was no fantasy island escape

As his mind stayed in places he’d rather forget

No sun drenched beach or beautiful landscape

His mind overdrawn and deeply in debt

Worn out by the sadness, worn out by the fight

Worn out by the never ending feeling of dread

Worn out by the terror that visits each night

No escape from the past entrenched his head

And the tide is relentless, dragging him out once more

To the horrors of yesterday, embraced in his past

The strong man swept away from normality’s shore

His mind beaten and broken, now society’s outcast

As he goes under the waves of wounds that won’t heal

He catches glimpses of the man he once used to be

The life that he led filled with compassion and zeal

Drowned in the ocean of his PTSD.

Re: The Relentless Tide

Hi @Keith1292

I haven't experienced PTSD, but your poem helps me to get a better understanding of this horrendous illness.

Thank you for sharing.
