Trying to get a sister to accept help
I'm new here. I have a sister who has always struggled with mental health - depression, bulimia and can't be alone. She had been with her husband since 15 and has 4 daughters and 10 grandchildren. They separated 10 years ago due to her alcohol use and mental health since she has had has to have a partner constantly regardless of who they are. She has tried to commit suicide and has recently broken up with the latest boyfriend and had to have the police and ambulance called again last night as family couldn't contact her. My family want to stage some sort of invention to tell her how valued and important she is. I'm not sure this will go well with her. Any ideas of where to next to get her accept she has an alcohol problem and go to AA or a support group would be appreciated. I live 3 states away.

Re: Trying to get a sister to accept help
Hi @AlliCat . A belated Welcome to the Forums!
I couldn't help but notice that your plea had gone unanswered for 3 weeks, which seemed like such a shame.
I don't know how helpful I can be, or whether the situation as you described it is still currant.
But would it perhaps be helpful to ask your sister what she wants and if there is anything you could do to help her get what she wants?
It mightn't be very productive to try to start off a conversation by criticizing her and making demands of her. A lot of people just tune off or walk away when they think that's all people are going to do to them.
