Hi guys,

It’s so easy to focus on negative things. I thought it might be fun to have a place to put some happy memories from when we were kids.

I will start, when I was 4 we had a lovely garden. I remember putting flower petals from roses into water and telling my Mum it was rose perfume.

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

we used to soak nasturtium petals and do water colours with the liquid @Oaktree

was so long ago, we used to have 'arbor day' ie tree planting think that was what the occasion was. got half a day off school . daisies(?) had flowered , walked slowly to house on 500m at least dirt track  was spring, warm, with a touch of wind , just smiling

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

Hello @Oaktree I think this is a great idea although my brain is struggling to think of much at the moment (very hard to find a memory that's not tainted) so for now I'll just put down this. I did ice skating when i was a kid and I used to love the way I felt so free on the ice, zooming along with the wind in my hair and the cool breeze on my face. I used to love jumping and spinning in the air and doing lots of spins on the ice leaving pretty patterns when i was done.

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

Great idea @Oaktree

Hey @Dreamy @TAB

I remember ice skating with my parents in Sydney. I liked watching them on the ice and when my father took me out. I was never great at it but mum came from a skating culture and he tried to do his best by her.

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

Love this @Oaktree!!

Hmm the first one that popped into my brain was going snorkelling up at Minnie Water Bay. There's this huge natural lagoon (the bay) and at the back are jagged rock alcoves. I remember the first time I was brave enough to go across the whole bay to the alcoves, I swam into one and was just chililing, looking at the seaweed and stuff, and I looked to my right and

MY TUMMY DROPPED COS HELLO SHARK

Waiiiit..... It's okay!! It was a wobbegong! Biggest one I'd ever seen though, I reckon it would've been at least 1.8m!! Looked like they were having a nap there, or maybe had even gotten stuck in the bay during low tide. But didn't seem to mind me at all!! I didn't stick around though, it being an alcove and all, if sharky had decided to panic, I was in the way of freedom!! But I was soooo stoked, cos I could have (if I had been a much sillier kid, mayhap) literally reached out and given pats!!

So that's my story hehe maybe slightly scary but overall happy memory (like most of my wildlife tales... or tailes as it were, teehee). Thanks for the prompt 😋

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

Nice thread @Oaktree but we must keep in mind it may be difficult for some people.

Fortunately for me the first years were abuse free so I do have some great memories.

I always grow jasmine and freesias wherever I live because it reminds me of my family of origin home and their scent takes me back there to those happy days.

I used to love running around in the bush for hours only coming home for lunch and dinner, making up stories and games with the other kids

@Till23

I had all kinds of abuse as a child but I still have some happy memories. Hopefully other people do too. There is no pressure to add anything though

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

I have none

Re: Happy Childhood Memories

I'm sorry to hear that @ArraDreaming hopefully you can make some happy memories together with your children

When I was primary-school-age, my parents took our family on a trip, flying to Perth and then touring the South-West Coast in a hire car. The best part was, us children were not only given kids packs to entertain us, we were also invited into the cockpit with the captain and first officer! It was so fascinating.

Ah, the glory of the 1990s!
